slideshow On a hot night in Atlanta (97 degrees with 104 heat index), the North Georgia Bulldogs improved to 2-0 with a 29-14 win over the Georgia Falcons thanks in large part to a great performance by the defenseThe defense forced four turnovers (two fumble recoveries and two interceptions), a safety?and held?the Falcons on 4th-down four times.
At the half, the Bulldogs led 15-6 on a Patrick Dupree five-yard TD run and a Mike Emerson touchdown catch of 42 yards from quarterback Jamie White who finished 6-for-14 for 92 yards with a touchdown and an interception.
The second half was controlled by the Bulldogs except for three turnovers which put an end to offensive drives, two inside the Falcons? 15-yard line.
?We played sluggish for most of the first quarter but as it cooled off some our intensity picked up on offense,? said Bulldogs head coach Mark Bramblett. ?Our defense played great all game
Dupree, a former Coosa High standout, added another TD run (four yards), and White picked up a three-yard touchdown run to finish out the scoring.
Former Calhoun High standout AJ Baker had four solo tackles and one interception, and Kwamaine Winters had six solo tackes, two assists and an interception to lead the defense. Dupree had two TDs on 41 yards rushing. Emerson had three catches for 54 yards and one TD.
The Bulldogs will play their home opener on Saturday at 7 p.m. and the Calhoun Recreation Department Field. Admission is $6, and kids four and under get in free.
According to Bramblett, this week?s game will feature another physical team from the Atlanta area, the Georgia Rams, that likes to mix the run into a quick-hitting passing game. Bramblett said they utilize a lot of motion and different looks offensively to try and confuse the defense. Defensively the Rams run a 4-2-5 look. The Rams are 1-1.
