Kent State honors baseball & golf teams

KENT, Ohio - Kent State University is honoring its baseball and men?s golf team Thursday for their impressive achievements this year.

The Kent State baseball team advanced to the College World Series for the first time in program history after beating No. 5 Oregon twice in the Super Regionals. The Golden Flashes also edged out the No. 1 seeded Florida Gators for their first ever College World Series win. They finished the year fifth in the nation.

The 2012 season was also certainly one to remember for the Kent State men?s golf team.

They had an outstanding year finishing 5th in the nation. The highlight win included a sudden death victory over No. 19 Florida State in the NCAA tournament. Their run ended with a loss to No. 2 Alabama. But their 5th place ranking is their highest in school history.

Kent State?s previous best finish came in 2008 when the team placed sixth. The Golden Flashes also placed in the top 10 with a ninth-place finish in 2000. ?

The celebration will begin tonight at the Kent State Center Ballroom. The doors will open at 5:30 p.m. followed by a presentation beginning at 7 p.m.?
